For choir leaders

Practice material stays inside your choir.

The controls that keep your choir’s practice material with your choir, and an honest account of what they can’t do.

Who gets in

Only people you let in.

Every member signs in with a Google or Apple account, so access is always linked to a real account. Chorustr never handles their passwords.

Choirs aren’t listed or searchable. The only way in is a joining code you share with your members.

  • Sign-in with Google or Apple, never an anonymous account.
  • No public directory of choirs.
  • Joining codes are 8 characters, and code lookups are limited to 10 a minute.
  • A rehearsal check-in code only works around the time of the rehearsal.

How long access lasts

You decide, and you can change your mind.

With an invite code, members join once. With rehearsal check-in, members keep access for a number of days after each check-in. It’s 60 unless you change it, and you can set it from 1 to 365. When it runs out they’re asked to check in again, so people who stop coming stop having the music.

You can also remove a member at any time from the Members page in the dashboard.

  • Choose invite code or rehearsal check-in.
  • Set how many days access lasts after a check-in.
  • Remove a member whenever you need to.

What members can do with the music

Play it in the app. Not much else.

Download links expire after 4 hours, and files are kept in the app’s private storage on the member’s phone, left out of phone backups. The app has no way to share, save or export your audio.

Lyrics, scores, cheat sheets and notes can be printed or exported only if you allow it, and you choose that for each one separately. All four are off until you switch them on.

  • Download links expire after 4 hours.
  • Files are kept in the app’s private storage on the phone.
  • Left out of phone backups, so there is no backup to copy them from.
  • No share, save or export for audio.
  • Print and export for documents: off by default, set per document type.

How hard it is to copy

Out of reach for most people, but not for a determined expert.

The files can’t be pulled off a phone in the ordinary way. The app has no share or export, the files sit in private app storage, and they are left out of phone backups. Copying them would take a jailbroken or rooted phone and specialist skills, which most people don’t have.

No system can stop everything once music is playing on a phone. A member could record the sound from their speaker, which gives a poor copy, and a determined expert could still get at the files. We don’t claim otherwise. What these controls give you is a real say over who has your material and how easily they can do anything with it.

A tip

Keep your Dropbox folder private too.

For an extra layer, share the folder only with your own account and Chorustr, and remove any other links or collaborators. If you’d like help with that, get in touch.

Where your files live.

These controls apply to material that Chorustr passes to your singers. Your files themselves stay in your own Dropbox.
